Civ 7: Heraldry UI Design

Player develops sense of identity with their customized civilization through integrated iconography.

Problem: if I keep "changing" my civ, then who am I when I play? How can I build my head canon?

Background info: In Civ7, you are creating a "custom civ" by selecting new leader/civ at the beginning of each era. (Previous Civs: you play as a one civ/leader for duration of a game.)

My proposal: create a Civ Heraldry System, and saturate the interface with the motifs. This helps reinforce the player feeling of identity with their customized civ. This is also an excellent social shareable asset.

The player selects from new design elements to add to the civ coat of arms at each era that reflects the new civ/leader in your story.

In this example, we start playing as Greece, and then Rome, and then Hawaii. At each era, we  will pick our new standard from the generated options in that row.

These slides are explorations on how the imagery would develop over time from a library of civ colors (jersey system), symbols, borders, and fills. You will see this design system in many of my other Civ 7 screen designs, often in headers, backgrounds, and supporting visual elements.
